You sound like a very nice lady, so I feel I should not use the kind of language I would need to describe my experience with Adwords.
I am, however, very glad you asked me this question.
please, please, please do not sign up for an adwords account under any circumstances.
go talk to a wall if you want to have the kind of experience I have had with adwords.
at least a wall will not hold your credit card hostage.
